ABOUT
Sebastian Steimel is a visual artist and music producer based in Cologne, working between photography, film and electronic music. Since discovering music production and underground culture at an early age, the search for atmosphere, immediacy and real human connection has shaped both his sonic and visual language.
Time spent between Cologne, Berlin and Munich, especially during the original Bar25 era in Berlin, left a lasting influence on his work. Playing at Bar25 and releasing music on labels such as indigo*magenta and pinksilver became formative experiences that continue to inform his approach to photography: intuitive, raw and deeply atmospheric. Years later, Steimel’s path came full circle when he began his film career as assistant editor on the Bar25 documentary Tage außerhalb der Zeit.
Working with analog gear in music and drawn to documentary perspectives and urban environments in photography, his work often moves between intimacy and imperfection, focusing on texture, presence and atmosphere rather than polished surfaces. Alongside personal artistic projects, he creates visual narratives for brands and organizations, while his work as a creative project manager has been recognized with a Grimme Online Award. On his YouTube channel, he shares reflections and behind-the-scenes insights into life as an independent artist.
